NEWUPPIN. At an SPD event in Neuruppin, Brandenburg, Chancellor Olaf Scholz was whistled at and shouted down. The head of government could hardly be understood because of the loud whistles and constant chanting when he wanted to explain his policy. Nevertheless, he carried the event through to the end.

His appearance on Wednesday evening on the school square in Neuruppin was accompanied by a large number of demonstrators.

Mass protests expected in autumn

Scholz said his government will ease the burden on citizens so they can shoulder inflation and skyrocketing energy prices. He defended the gas levy and German sanctions against Russia.

In the past few days, members of the federal government and executives from the Office for the Protection of the Constitution have repeatedly spoken about possible mass protests and even attempted coups in the fall.

The police are investigating resistance because a person did not want to leave the cordoned off area. Violations of the assembly law are also checked.
