The Government of Peru sanctioned on Friday an extension of the state of emergency in the metropolitan region of Lima and the province of Callao, for a period of 45 days, to deal with the wave of violence and insecurity that affects these regions.

According to the decree, during the established period, the Peruvian National Police will maintain control of internal order, with the support of the Armed Forces.

“The intervention of the National Police and the Armed Forces is carried out in accordance with the provisions of Legislative Decree 1186, which regulates the use of force by the National Police, and Legislative Decree 1095, which establishes rules of employment and use of force by the Armed Forces”, underlined the recently approved regulation.

Likewise, the entity specified that in the indicated regions the constitutional rights related to the inviolability of the home, freedom of transit in the national territory, freedom of assembly are suspended; as well as personal freedom and security.

"The implementation of the actions provided for in this supreme decree is financed from the institutional budget of the specifications involved," the regulation indicated.

In another order, it determines that the functions of the local and regional governments of Lima and Callao will be carried out within the framework of current regulations on citizen security.
