Thousands of people demonstrated in Munich on Saturday to call on the heads of state and government of the group of seven industrialized countries to immediately stop arms exports to Ukraine. "They only fuel more violence."

Leaders of the United States, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Canada and Japan will meet at Schloss Elmau in the Bavarian mountains for a three-day summit starting Sunday to increase pressure on the Russian invasion of Ukraine that led to food and energy shortages around the world.

The protesters carried banners reading "Stop Russia's war", "America and NATO, get out of Ukraine" and "Imperialism starts here" and demanded that the G7 allocate more resources to crisis prevention, crisis management, crisis, civil conflict and economic development.

The protest was sponsored by more than 15 organizations including WWF Germany, Oxfam Germany, Greenpeace and Bread for the World.

"The demonstration is a clear signal of the strong desire of many people for the G7 countries to pursue fundamentally different policies," Oxfam Germany said in a statement.

The G7 leaders plan to discuss the creation of a club to manufacture and sell more weapons for Ukraine on credit, while forgetting about the climate and the environment.

More than 20,000 police and the army were deployed to ensure security at the summit.
