Brazil's electoral court says that the presidential elections in Brazil are "mathematically defined" with Lula leading the counts.

Such a result came after 67.76 percent of the ballot boxes counted.

The Electoral Justice confirmed that former President Lula, a candidate for the Workers' Party seeking his third term (2003-2011), won the first round of voting on October 2 with 48.43 percent of the vote.

Bolsonaro, who aspires to be re-elected by the Liberal Party, had 43.20 percent, a much higher indicator than that predicted by opinion polls.

Both politicians disputed the ballot this Sunday, failing to achieve the absolute majority of votes in that first contest, that is, more than half of the valid votes (excluding blanks and null votes), as established by national legislation to be elected.
