The National Assembly (AN) of Venezuela and the Congress of Colombia issued a joint statement this Friday to celebrate the reopening of the common border on September 26, as part of the reestablishment of bilateral relations.

"Our sister peoples will embrace each other again, to put life above hatred, to rebuild the battered economy of the region, to overcome crime, the enjoyment of Human Rights and the consolidation of peace on the border," the text refers. .

In addition, they reported on the postponement of the first binational meeting between the parliamentarians of both countries, which was scheduled for next September 25.

"The first meeting is based on listening to the voices of the border and installing work groups that address the structural problems of the border and its regional diversities," the two parties stressed.

Finally, the authorities of both legislative entities stated that they hope to hold five binational meetings "along the 2,219 kilometers of border," and they estimate that some may take place before the end of 2022.

On the Venezuelan side, the statement was issued by the president of the AN, Jorge Rodríguez, and the head of the Foreign Policy Commission of that entity, Timoteo Zambrano.

In turn, for Colombia was the president of Congress, Roy Barreras, and the head of Commission II of the Senate on Foreign Relations, Gloria Flórez.
